101 in 1001 - #9: Go to San Felipe & #27: Go on a Road Trip With Mr. Lukie

#9 & #27 (combined, because it works!):
Viva la Mexico! We were so excited about our impending trip to San Felipe this weekend. It's not often that Mr. Lukie has a full weekend off of work, so when he does, we relish in the time together and try to do something slightly fun. We went with a group of friends (7 of us in total) and had a blast! Left on Friday around 5pm and got to the beach house at midnight. Long drive, but made fun by the mini-caravan we had going, as well as pit stops to purchase Mexican Insurance, Jack In The Box and alcohol at the Duty Free store.

Highlights of the trip:
  • Walking the 50 yards to the edge of the Sea of Cortez just minutes after arriving at the beach house at midnight on Friday night.
  • Sleeping on the roof, inside of a sleeping bag, on top of a mattress. You've never seen stars in the night sky until you've "camped" in San Felipe! It looked like stars in the sky (duh), with glitter tossed into the sky. Breathtakingly beautiful!
  • Windsurfing.
  • Kayaking.
  • Swimming.
  • Eating a ton of yummy food...of the healthy and the not-so-healthy varieties.
  • Consuela Bowl at Percebu (straight alcohol--rum & tequila?--a splash of coke, ice & fresh fruit squeezed into it). Tasted like crap, but we all had fun sucking it down!
  • Going 'froadin in the dunes on our way back from Percebu, and our poor friend, Beth blurting out over the speakers that were blaring, Another One Bites The Dust, "Ummm...Chris...? Think you could pull over for a second...?" How appropriate.
  • Singing and dancing in the car on the way to & from our destination, with Mr. Lukie joining in.
  • Watching Mr. Lukie take off on his motorcycle in full riding gear, looking as tough & manly as ever. And then seeing him strip down afterward, sweaty & dirty :)
  • Floating in the Sea of Cortez, drink in hand.
  • Seeing Mr. Lukie in nothing but board shorts for the entiiiiiiiiire weekend.
  • And the #1 highlight of the weekend....Making it across the border, back into the United States without Passports. We still have NO idea how we got in using our Driver's Licenses only!

  1. Sounds like a great time, glad you didn't have any trouble!

  2. I still am perplexed about not needing passports....Did you flash the customs guys? ;). haha. Glad you had such a nice time. It sounds like an awesome getaway, and the pics are gorgeous on Facebook.

  3. Sounds like an amazing weekend! It sounds super fun, I love doing road trips/crazy vacations with my guy, we're gearing up to plan a WHOLE bunch for next year!
