Reason for the Season

Being that my husband is a firefighter, there are many times when an anniversary, birthday, holiday or other celebration finds my husband at the fire station, putting in a 24-hour shift, unable to celebrate with whomever is to be honored on such day. And, being that I was fully aware of this prior to marrying my husband, I don't get upset, nor have hurt feelings when we are forced to celebrate these things either early or late. It's just a fact of life and is taken in stride. Just because we are not able to celebrate the anniversary, birthday, or holiday on said day does not give it any less significance.

Christmas, to me, is the same way. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, born into this sinful world to save you and to save me. Jesus gave hope to the hopeless, sustenance to the destitute and healing to the sick. To believers, He is the rock of our salvation, the strength of our life. He gives us hope, he gives us inspiration and He gives us everlasting life. What a gift that is, to sinners like us! To unlovable, evil, immoral, undeserving people like us. And he love us, just the same! No judgement, no embarrassment, no second guessing what He did.

So while we all know that Christ was not born on Christmas Day, that is when we celebrate His birth. That is when we sing Hallelujah to our Savior. Just because He was not born today does not give this day any less significance.

Merry Christmas!
